» 04/20/05: ARF Director daily activities in Aceh » 04/05/05: Visit to Aceh by ARF Director Update on Aceh Relief Fund It has been more than a week
since ARF Director, Dr. Mazalan Kamis, arrived in Aceh. Mazalan is
further promoting the people-to-people connection so that ARF will have
greater accessibility to various communities and other social
infrastructure in Aceh. Despite having difficulties accessing the
Internet in Aceh, he has been able to regularly send his journal
updates. From his journal, we know that Mazalan has been able to meet
numerous local Acehnese NGOs, school administrators, village heads, and
individual victims of the tsunami. He has an extremely tight schedule
for his two week stay in Aceh. Check our website often to follow
Mazalan's daily work in Aceh.
Update on Aceh Relief Fund Tuesday, April 5, 2005, 10:00 AM EST Visit to Aceh by ARF Director Continuing the effort started by Kelly and Kari, Dr. Mazalan Kamis will visit Aceh beginning April 10th. Mazalan will depart Ithaca on April 6th and arrive in Singapore on April 8th. He will continue to Kuala Lumpur where he plans to rest for a day before continuing his journey to Medan and Aceh. Mazalan will further promote the people-to-people connection so that ARF
will have greater accessibility to various communities and other social
infrastructure in Aceh in order to offer wider assistance to them. He
will meet and hold several workshops with Acehnese volunteer groups
affiliated to ARF. In addition, he plans to visit schools and hold
discussions with the schools’ administrators for possible link-ups with
schools in the US for ARF’s sister-school program. Mazalan will also
have the opportunity to visit the village that ARF plans to adopt. |
